U.S. Space Command hosted Australia’s Chief of Joint Operations at its headquarters Nov. 1, 2021.
U.S. Army Gen. James Dickinson, USSPACECOM commander, met with Australian Army Lt. Gen. Gregory Bilton, Chief of Joint Operations, to reaffirm the importance of space cooperation between the United States and Australia. Senior USSPACECOM leaders briefed Bilton on threats to the space domain and discussed additional areas to enhance strategic partnerships. Officials from Joint Task Force-Space Defense briefed Bilton on the protect-and-defend mission and Combined Force Space Component Command briefed on space support to global operations. JTF-SD and CFSCC are USSPACECOM’s two functional commands.
Australia is a member of the Combined Space Operations Initiative and OPERATION OLYMPIC DEFENDER.
The CSpO initiative brings Australia, Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States together to generate and improve cooperation, coordination, and interoperability opportunities to sustain freedom of action in space, optimize resources, and enhance mission assurance and resilience. OOD is a key multinational effort intended to optimize and synchronize space operations with the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
USSPACECOM conducts operations in, from, and to space to deter conflict, and if necessary, defeat aggression, deliver space combat power for the Joint and Combined force, and defend U.S. vital interests with allies and partners.
