USSPACECOM and the Qatar Armed Forces sign Space Situational Awareness Data Sharing Agreement

U.S. Space Command

U.S. Space Command signed a Space Situational Awareness data sharing agreement with the Qatar Armed Forces, October 23, 2023.

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Michael Morrissey, Director of U.S. Space Command’s strategy, plans and policy directorate, and Qatari Maj. Gen. Abdulaziz Al Doseri, Advisor to Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs for Space and Telecommunications, signed the agreement, which authorizes the exchange of information and enhances the safety, stability, security, and sustainability of space for all.

“By fostering strong international alliances, we not only protect our way of life but also exemplify the peaceful use of space for all,” said Morrissey. “We’re happy to be strengthening our already great relationship with Qatar.”

While the Qatari delegation was in Colorado, USSPACECOM also extended a formal invitation to the Qatari Armed Forces to attend Global Sentinel 2024, which will be hosted by USSPACECOM at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif. next year. Global Sentinel is USSPACECOM’s premier security cooperation effort, designed to strengthen and grow international partnership, improve operational collaboration and promote responsible behavior in the space domain.

Earlier this year in July, a delegation from Qatar to include Maj. Gen. Al Doseri visited USSPACECOM’s Commercial Operations Cell (JCO) to observe one of the JCO’s Sprint Advanced Concept Trainings (SACT). SACT exercises are designed to improve collaboration between USSPACECOM and its components, allied and partner nation space enterprises, and the commercial space industry.

USSPACECOM holds more than 170 Space Situational Awareness sharing agreements with partners from the commercial sector, academia, and foreign and intergovernmental agencies that share views about responsible behaviors in space.
