USSPACECOM Intelligence Directorate Member Receives Award

U.S. Space Command

Mr. Michael Sheets, a member of U.S. Space Command’s intelligence directorate, was presented the Col. Michael W. Sharp Reserve Integration Award for fiscal year 2022 during the Defense Intelligence Agency Joint Reserve Intelligence Program Conference in San Diego, Calif., June 7, 2023.

In addition to his role at USSPACECOM, Sheets is a reservist at the 310th Space Wing at Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora, Colo., where he is an Intelligence Reserve Program Manager.

The Col. Michael Sharp Reserve Integration Award was established in 2021 by the Defense Intelligence Agency director to recognize the reserve management team that best demonstrates superior performance integrating reserve military intelligence capabilities into the total force, maximizing the wartime readiness of assigned reserve forces.

“I had met and worked with COL Sharp briefly before he passed away,” said Sheets. “He was a tremendous leader and mentor to me and many others.

“There are many people who lead, work in, and support Reserve Component management, so, it is an incredible honor to be recognized among such an amazing group of professionals,” he added. “This award is reflection of all of the outstanding leadership, mentorship, and support I’ve received.”

Sheets’ contributions to the USSPACECOM intelligence directorate have made significant impacts to ensure mission success.

“Mr. Sheets expertly coordinated with the (intelligence directorate) division requirement holders to gather intelligence gaps and quickly utilized his skills and talents to recruit and fill reserve positions to minimize shortcomings in the US Space Command intelligence mission,” said Mr. Tige Palmer, USSPACECOM’s intelligence mission services division chief. “His dedication and consistent work ethic ensured that both the mission continued uninterrupted but exceeded the requirement holder’s needs.

“All these efforts led to him being submitted for the Col. Sharp Integration Award,” he added.
