PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. –
U.S. Space Command began its second major exercise of fiscal year 2022, Space Lightning, which will execute from Jan. 26-Feb. 2, 2022.
Space Lightning 22 will provide training opportunities for USSPACECOM to exercise assured missions, with a specific focus on ensuring readiness to support integrated deterrence and provide the space-enabled combat edge upon which the joint and combined force depends.
USSPACECOM will join U.S European Command, U.S. Strategic Command, U.S. Cyber Command and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command in their ongoing theater exercises.
In November 2021, USSPACECOM conducted its first exercise of fiscal year 2022, Space Thunder, which was integrated with USSTRATCOM’s exercise Global Thunder. The exercises in November were designed around realistic training activities to evaluate and improve nuclear readiness and strategic deterrent capabilities.
In addition to conducting exercise SL22, USSPACECOM continues to execute its 24/7 global responsibilities, which include protecting and defending the space domain, satellite communications and sensor management, and the execution of global space operations in order to deliver combat relevant space capabilities to combatant commanders, allied and partner forces, the joint force and the nation.
