Dickinson, French Armed Forces minister meet in Paris

By Ministry of the Armed Forces

Florence Parly, the Minister of France's Armed Forces, met with U.S. Army Gen. James Dickinson, commander of U.S. Space Command, on June 24.

This meeting made it possible to reaffirm the crucial importance of space-related issues in the countries' respective defense strategies and to present French space priorities while underlining the high degree and dynamism of our bilateral and multilateral operational cooperation on defense space.

The United States is a key ally for French military space operations. It was agreed to continue and reinforce this cooperation thanks to common operations and exercises, as well as the creation of a permanent position for a U.S. officer in the French Space Command and a position for a French officer embedded in USSPACECOM headquarters.

During this discussion, the minister and general reaffirmed the two countries’ support to the process that culminated in the adoption of the December 2020 United Nations General Assembly Resolution on reducing space threats through norms, rules and principles of responsible behaviors in outer space.

During the meeting, Dickinson extended an invitation to Parly to visit USSPACECOM in Colorado Springs soon.
