Cooperation in Space: USSPACECOM Legal Conference explores implications in law and policy
U.S. Air Force Col. Sarah Mountin, staff judge advocate for Space Operations Command – West and Combined Force Space Component Command, moderated the Strategic Trade Authorization/Space Situational Awareness panel with Art Loureiro, director of space defense solutions, L3Harris; Diana McKissock, director of space domain awareness partnership and coalition engagement division, 18th Space Defense Squadron; Derek Hanson, attorney-advisor, weather satellites and research Section, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; and Paul Weber, general counsel for Blue Origin, during the 2023 U.S. Space Command Legal Conference held at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Polaris Hall Feb. 28 – March 2, 2023. The three-day hybrid event hosted more than 450 participants to foster discussions on space cooperation. The conference covered a breadth of issues across all sectors of space, to include the U.S. military, U.S. government interagency partners, academia, the civilian and commercial sector, and U.S. partner nations.
